VSMY5xxxX01 - High Speed Infrared Emitter Diode with 30% Higher Brightness
Vishay Intertechnology today announced the release of three newhigh-speed infrared (IR) emittersin 2mm by 1.25mm by 0.8mm 0805 surface-mount packages with opaque sidewalls. These new IR Emitter Diodes namely, VSMY5850X01 (850 nm), VSMY5890X01 (890 nm), and VSMY5940X01 (940 nm) has a peak wavelength of 850nm, 890nm, and 940nm respectively and delivers 30 % higher radiant intensity than previous-generation devices over a wide temperature range from -40 °C to +110 °C. These modules are used in automobiles, miniature light barriers, and you can also see these IR emitters in projects which include proximity sensors, optical switches, etc.

Traditional PCB packages utilize an all transparent epoxy to embed the emitter chip, resulting in side emissions which can cause a halo to affect in-camera images. Ideal for position tracking in virtual or augmented reality applications, the opaque sidewalls of the IR emitters released today prevent unwanted side emissions and simplify designs by eliminating the need for external barriers such as rubber rings.
The IR emitter is used in automotive applications, miniature light barriers, optical switch, IR point source, and also used in sensors like proximity sensors, motion detection sensors, etc. Samples of the new IR emitters are now available and production quantities are available with lead times of 10 weeks.
